Lavern H. Opp, MA
After a rewarding career working for the Seventh-day Adventist Church in various educational roles, including principal and administrator, Mr. Opp spent his first eight retirement years serving as the Government Relations Representative for the Northwest Religious Liberty Association (NRLA). In 2000 he worked with NRLA President Greg
Hamilton and Idaho Senator Grant Ipsen in shepherding the “Free Exercise of Religion Act of 2000” through the Idaho Legislature, which then Governor Dirk Kempthorne (now U.S. Interior Secretary) signed. It was a major victory for religious freedom. Mr. Opp worked in a diligent and effective manner to lobby every Senate and House Member regarding the benefits of restoring the fundamental basis of the free exercise of religion for the citizens of Idaho.
